2017 - 2019 REPORT
Global Multi-Year Partnerships
Yale University (Yale)
Yale University is the Institute’s long-term partner. As Visiting Professor, Prof. Helen F. Siu has worked closely with the Institute on research, organizing events, and nurturing postgraduate students, while leading the Institute’s Hubs, Mobilities and the Asia Urban (HMAU) cluster. Yale’s Council on East Asian Studies and Department of Anthropology have engaged some of the HMAU programs, including the workshop series “Asia Inside Out: Mobile Peoples,” the publication of the Asia Inside Out series, and the production of the Hong Kong documentary film project.
Yale University and the Institute have continued long-term efforts to nurture young scholars. In 2016, Mr. George Bayuga (Anthropology, Yale University) was awarded the Sin Wai-Kin Junior Fellowship and came to the Institute for one year to conduct research on his PhD thesis “Infrastructures of Faith: Catholics Channels Across the South China Sea.” During his visit, Mr. Bayuga also shared first-hand experience on applying for competitive international grants.
