Project Description
This project is a case study of the Sumitomo Group, one of Japan’s oldest and most important companies. Through a close examination of its history and the changing milieu up to the Meiji Era, Dr. Guan will seek to discern how the interplay between pre-modern family institutions and business pursuits engendered lasting impact on the organizing and governing principles of Japanese capitalism.
