Project Description
This project seeks to revisit the somewhat homogenizing and unilinear national narrative of high-tech medicalization by focusing on the personal experiences of different generations of Chinese midwives, especially midwives that have not undergone intensive medical training. P.I. will approach the personal narratives of lay midwives from different generations and from different parts of China as an opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of processes of medicalization as they unfold on the ground.
