Jiaying Li has developed her interest in History since childhood, and that is the reason why she chooses History as her major in college. After studying History for four years, she was much fascinated by exploring the law of historical development, which has prompted her to further her studies in the field.
The title of Jiaying Li’s Bachelor’s degree thesis is “Olfactory Modernity: Focusing on the development history of floral water in modern China.” It mainly focuses on the process in which modern floral water, as a luxury goods imported from overseas has gradually developed into a popular daily product that was sold in the national cosmetics industry in modern Chinese society. The study analyses the emergence of “olfactory modernity” in modern Chinese cities and the perpetual and ideological changes in modern Chinese society; and examines the macro issue of the evolution of modern Chinese social culture and consciousness.
