
Practical Information for Participants
1. Accommodation
Participants will be hosted at the Robert Black College, a guest house of the University of Hong Kong for visiting scholars from overseas and mainland China. It is located within the University’s main campus and can be accessed by public transportation or taxi.

Your room booking has already been confirmed. Please let us know immediately if you have any last minute changes to make to your booking. The room package includes in-room Wi-Fi internet and daily breakfast. You are kindly asked to cover any incidental charges, e.g. long-distance telephone calls, laundry and in-room dining.

2. Transportation
How to get to Robert Black College from Airport There are two ways to reach Robert Black College. Both will require guests to take the Airport Express service to Hong Kong Station first. To make use of this service, locate the Airport Express Customer Service Centre near Arrival Hall B or any Airport Express Ticket Issuing Machine after exiting from the arrival hall. Purchase an Airport Express (機場快線) ticket to Hong Kong Station, the final station for the Airport Express train line; it will cost HKD 100 for a single journey or HKD 180 for a round trip. Make your way to the train platform by following the signs indicating “Trains to City”. Trains to Hong Kong station depart from the Main Arrivals Hall every 10 minutes and the journey takes approximately 25 minutes.
From Hong Kong Station, you can choose to get to Robert Black College by one of the two ways: By Taxi After exiting Hong Kong Station, head to the taxi stand. Take a taxi and inform the driver to bring you to “Robert Black College, The University of Hong Kong” through Conduit Road. It will cost around HKD 50-60*. * A HKD 5 surcharge will be charged for each piece of luggage placed in the trunk.
By Train Upon arriving at Hong Kong station, change to the Hong Kong MTR Island Line and take the train to HKU station. The journey costs HKD 5 with an Octopus card and takes approximately 7 minutes. From HKU station, make your way to The University of Hong Kong campus via Exit A2. Look out for signs leading to Robert Black College around the main campus.
3. Visa
Before departing for the conference please ensure that you've possessed the necessary visa / entry permit for visiting Hong Kong. For more information on visa / entry permit requirements to Hong Kong, please visit the Immigration Department of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region website.
Mainland residents will have to apply for the relevant exit endorsement from the appropriate authorities under the Individual Visit Scheme. For more information about the Individual Visit Scheme and exit endorsement, please refer to the related Hong Kong Tourism Commission webpage or consult the websites of the respective provincial and city public security authorities. 4. Weather
The conference will take place during early spring in Hong Kong. You can expect cool, humid weather with average temperatures ranging between 17°C – 26°C (62°F – 78°F). There may also be occasional showers or thunderstorms. Participants should take note of the warning signals issued by the Hong Kong Observatory in the event of heavy rain. Warnings are broadcast on television and radio, and detailed information about current and seasonal weather can also be found on the Hong Kong Observatory website. While you are in Hong Kong, you can also dial 1878 200 and press '3' for English to check the latest situation.
5. Electricity & Voltage / IT Equipment
The standard electrical voltage in Hong Kong is 220 volts AC, 50Hz and most of the electrical outlets take a three-pronged UK-style plug. All rooms at the Robert Black College are fitted with internet ports and cables, but you will need an adaptor if you are not using an appliance or equipment with the same socket.
In addition, please bring along a VGA Adapter if you are using your own MacBook for your presentation.
