Roshni Udyavar Yehuda is Head of the Rachana Sansad’s Institute of Environmental Architecture, Prabhadevi, Mumbai since June 2003. The Institute, which is the postgraduate wing of the Academy of Architecture, Mumbai, offers academic courses such as the Postgraduate Diploma in Environmental Architecture recognized by the Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education, and Masters Degree in Environmental Architecture recognized by the Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU), Nashik, & the Council of Architecture (COA), India. She is also Jt. Editor, Evergreen RACHANA, the quarterly magazine of Rachana Sansad.

Having worked locally and internationally in the field of environmental research, pedagogy and implementation from 1997 to 2003, at the International Institute for Sustainable Future, a United Nations NGO DPI affiliated organization based in Mumbai and New York, she has a wide range of practical experience. An architect by profession, Roshni has acquired additional skills in journalism, photography, film production and Voice Culture.

She has traveled widely on professional assignments and presented papers in numerous international conferences in more than 13 countries including Iran, S. Korea, Slovenia, Austria, Israel and South Africa. She had organized, under the Global Futures Network, a delegation of more than 100 people to the World Summit on Sustaianable Development (WSSD) in Johannesburg, South Africa, August-September 2002. Roshni has lectured at national and international conferences and universities including the University of Vienna, Austria and the Arizona State University, Arizona, USA. She was part of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) sponsored Indian delegation to study Green Buildings in the United States in September - October 2004, and is actively involved in developing green building technical criteria for Pune and Mumbai in collaboration with International Institute for Energy Conservation (IIEC) and USAID.

Recently, she was nominated for the prestigious ‘International Visitor Leadership Program on Environmental Protection’ by the United States Department of State, which included studies in four states of the US – Washington, D.C., St. Louis, Missouri, Jackson Hole, Wyoming and Boston Massachusetts – from 8-26 June 2009. She delivered a lecture at NYU on ‘Green Buildings in India: Context and Review’ on 21 October 2009 as part of a special lecture series entitled ‘Situating Sustainability’ organized by the New York University (NYU) Abu Dhabi Campus.

Through the Rachana Sansad’s Institute of Environmental Architecture, she has initiated and worked on numerous projects including the Dahisar River Restoration Project, Sawantwadi Ecotourism development, Restoration of Charolette lake in Matheran, ‘Harvest to Harness’ Rainwater Harvesting Competition, Capacity building for professionals through education in building physics and energy simulation in collaboration with Bureau of Energy Efficiency and USAID’s ECO III Project. She was part of a delegation to study water harvesting and management technologies to the Agritech 2006 exhibition to Israel, 8 – 12 May 2006.

She is a member of the Council of Architecture & Indian Institute of Architects as well as Evaluation Committee on Rainwater harvesting consultants with the Municipal Corporation of Greater (MCGM) Mumbai and Panel on education and development at Maharashtra Nature Park (MNP), Mumbai.

She is Chairperson of the Organization for the Protection of Children’s Rights (OPCR), Mumbai and coordinator for South Asia, OPCR, Canada.

She is committed to local and global sustainability through creative educational and professional initiatives, and appropriate technology, with an emphasis on equity, scientific thought and positive ecological values.
