Solomon Benjamin

Solomon Benjamin is an Associate Professor at the Bangalore based, National Institute of Advanced Studies and co-anchor of its newly established Urban Research and Policy Program (URPP). Till recently, he was at the University of Toronto’s Dept of Political Science. Prior to that, he coordinated an independent research group focusing on urban economy, politics, poverty, and land. Benjamin has a PhD from Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Department of Urban Studies and Planning (1996) and a masters’ in a research program on settlement design at MIT. Benjamin’s research looks at urban globalization, theories of city politics and economy and land. He has authored a book: ‘Jobs, Land, and Urban Development and published in leading international journals like the IJURR, Environment and Urbanization, GeoForum, and the SARAI reader, as well as in European journals with articles in French, German, and Spanish.
